How does this tool count words?
Any sequence of characters separated by whitespace. Punctuation attached to a word (like "don't" or "well-known") counts as part of that word, matching how most word processors count.
How is reading time estimated?
Reading time is estimated at roughly 200 words per minute, a commonly used average silent-reading speed. Speaking time is estimated separately at roughly 130 words per minute.
Is my text stored or sent anywhere?
No. All counting happens locally in your browser using JavaScript, nothing you type is sent to a server or saved anywhere.
